George Rodgers, M.D.

Rodgers is an associate professor of medicine and the associate chief of cardiology for education.

Trained in general and interventional cardiology, he joined two other Austin cardiologists in 1989. Today his practice is focused on general consultative cardiology and prevention. Rodgers has a passion for medical education and led the development of the Dell Medical School heart disease curriculum. He is the director of the selectives and electives for internal medicine, and the director of cardiology education for the internal medicine residents.

Rodgers is engaged in initiatives to improve access to specialty/cardiology care for the impoverished patients of Central Texas. He has been instrumental in developing eConsults to improve access and communication with primary care physicians, and is working on team-based care strategies to improve the delivery of care to these vulnerable patients.

Rodgers has been very active in the American College of Cardiology. He served on its Board of Trustees for eight years, was the chair of the Board of Governors in 2007, and continues to serve on many of the ACC’s national committees and writing groups.
